Is Microsoft shoddier than Apple? Well, that may still be open to ponder, but it appears as if Skype has already drawn its own terminations.

Undeniably, the VoIP concern has confirmed that its software isn’t presently in development for Windows Phone 7

“Instead, [Skype] is concentrating on development around the iPhone, Symbian and Android operating systems,” described David Richards of Smarthouse.

“[Although] Dan Neary, [Skype's] Asia Pacific VP was hesitant to explain why no development was taking place for the new Windows Mobile offering, he did say [Skype] was developing new offerings for the iPhone, iPad and Android based phones.”

Vladislav Savov of Engadget reacted to the news by terming Skype’s decision a “bombshell.”

“Skype, the godfather of VoIP apps and an increasingly ubiquitous piece of mobile as well as desktop software, has just let it be known that it’s not planning on bringing its goodies to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 OS,” wrote Savov.

“Perhaps, like Mozilla, the Skype devs felt they weren’t getting access to the right tools. Whatever the reason, this would be a major competitive disadvantage for Microsoft’s great new hope on the mobile front.”

Nevertheless, Savov renowned that Neary’s admission wasn’t an “official renouncement” from Skype, but rather a declaration of the status quo.

“All we can take away from it for now is that the road ahead looks a bit bumpier than before for WP7,” he added.
