Nokia loses market share in phones with Wi-Fi

altIn the past year the market share of Nokia phones equipped with WiFi hotspots has fallen by 10 percentage points - according to a study conducted by analyst firm In-Stat.

Even in the second quarter 2008 market share of Nokia phones with WiFi modules was over 50%. But over the next 12 months it has declined by 10 percentage points. At the same time its share of this market has increased both Apple and RIM.

The reason for this was a significant increase in the number of devices on the market that allow you to connect to a network statement in WiFi technology. Only from 2007 to 2008, the sales of such phones has increased by over 50%. Such an outcome could be achieved through more and more advanced phones, falling prices and promotions modules organized by their manufacturers.

How to study authors note, until recently Wi-Fi modules are designed only for devices with top shelf. However, with the popularization of the iPhone, this type of data was taken to a wider audience.

Of the remaining applications to the study, inter alia, that in the first half of 2009 went on the market for 121 phone models are equipped with WiFi hotspots. The number of such devices on the market over the next two years to double. This ensures that users will increasingly benefit from the opportunities they provide, including from conducting conversations using VoIP.
