Scientists Mebroot botnet infiltrated

Scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) managed to penetrate the network malware's Mebroot, which operators lie in wait for visitors to a web page. Scientists have for the new insights in the so-called drive-by attacks.

Specialists located more than 6500 sites where malicious code was hidden. Contact with them might even have 340 thousand Internet users - reported magazine Technology Review. 


To the method used by the cyber attack to work, they first break in the major sites, and instantly make modifications that cause redirecting users to sites that contain malicious code. In the forthcoming analysis, scientists describe how four months Mebroot infiltrated the network. During the study, inter alia, to come to the conclusion that for a long time, not only from the web sites are haunted by attacks drive-by. While the pornography are extremely effective tool to spread malware, but most often it is distributed through the normal corporate sites.

"There was a time when enough remember that, to avoid becoming a victim of an attack, you should avoid visiting suspicious Adult" - said Giovanni Vigna, associate professor of computer science at UCSB and co-author of the study. "Now that's not enough. Even bypassing the Internet red-light districts, can be attacked."
