OIX system will provide companies and government agencies, the leading online activities, special identifiers - "identity", for which they will identify the public authorities.

The main purpose of OIX (Open Identity Exchange) - to provide online "identity" organizations working in the public and private sectors.

OIX system should not be confused with OpenID - an open decentralized single sign-on sites, portals, blogs and forums. OIX will not provide access to Facebook or Twitter, and at sites controlled by the U.S. government, reports Mashable.

Before I get "Internet Passport", organization or agency will need to undergo a multilevel review process. Has the right to inspect only authorized organization within the OIX. Now such organizations are Google, PayPal and U.S. credit reference agency Equifax. If the check is successful, the organization will be given the "keys" for access to government sites.

According to one of the leaders of OIX Don Thibeau, organizations that have been tested, may also be granted access to the sites of nonprofit organizations, telecommunications companies, academic networks, etc.

OIX is a nonprofit organization. Its establishment was announced on March 3 at the conference RSA, devoted to information security. In developing the system involved several leading IT-corporations - among them Google, PayPal and Verizon, said SecurityLab.
