Gartner: better not to wait for service pack for Windows 7

Gartner analyst argues why administrators should immediately start testing the new Windows on company computers, not waiting for the first edition of Microsoft's Service Pack.
Steven Kleynhansa postulate, an analyst at Gartner is aimed primarily for corporate administrators of computers running on Windows XP. The reason is simple - in April 2009 ended a period of free support for this most popular of Microsoft. Over the next five years for free updates will be available only to airborne hazardous gap. Other support will be paid for. By contrast, the majority of Vista by businesses has been omitted.

April 2014, when Microsoft finally plans to discontinue development of Vista, it seems quite distant date, but Steve Kleynhans notes that at the end of 2011 will be a noticeable lack of support for XP, the software vendors, so this time we install Windows 7 on company computers . However, such an operation must be preceded by testing a new system in the corporate environment, because Gartner encouraged to take the test today of all administrators who have not yet done. After 2012 will be a period, which Gartner defines as "XP danger zone."

Gartner urges administrators, because so far the exchange to a new operating system in businesses followed approximately 12-18 months after the premiere. Holding on to this cycle, the time may be accrued to the company's migration to the already mentioned high-risk period for the old system.

As history shows, administrators do not hurry up with the installation of Microsoft's new system, waiting for the first hotfix rollup package - Service Pack, which usually occurs one year after the premiere. "For administrators, the temptation of waiting year for SP is understandable. The precise time and one, convenient installation, a single package on multiple computers at once is a big advantage" - says Steve Kleynhans. "But in Windows 7 has no such need, thanks to automatic updates keep the system" - adds Kleynhans.
