altActing at Microsoft puncture the Head of the Office for Interoperability Paul Lorimer said in an official blog that the group is currently working on a publicly accessible description of the format for PST files. In this format, Outlook saves all user data: e-mails, contacts, schedule entries, tasks, and other records used by advanced users of the program. These figures grow to gargantuan proportions - although there are tools you can use these monstrous example, share files, but such applications suffer from the fact that there is still no documented format PST. Developers can use MAPI, however, that as in the case of data from Microsoft Exchange, exchange data with Outlook installed on the client, or Outlook DOM, the memory structures to address the same through their own programs.

According to Lorimer PCT is to be the program for the Microsoft Open Specification Promise, which resulted in each becomes clear how these data should be read, recorded and processed, even if your computer does not have Outlook. In addition, the easy way can also be programmed to filter through which network services such as Gmail mail, they can import data files from Outlook users.

Today, however, promised documentation is only at an early stage of development. According to its own declaration of Microsoft is working with professionals and clients to improve the quality of this specification. Lorimer, however, does not mention a word about this, when the group's work is completed.
