Olivia Colman: 'This is hilarious, I've got an Oscar!'

A shell-shocked Olivia Colman delivered a very real speech today that left plenty of people smiling, as she accepted the Best Actress Award for her role in The Favourite.

You really can't go wrong starting your speech with, "This is genuinely quite stressful".

She thanked her co-stars, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone, who played the role of two women competing for the attention of the lesbian queen, calling them "the two loveliest women in the world to fall in love with and to do to work with every day".

"Any little girl that's practicing her speech on the telly, you never know", she encouraged the audience at home, beaming proudly. This is not going to happen again.

In an upset twist of events, British actor Olivia Colman won her first Oscar as Best Actress last night, beating out Glenn Close - who was expected to win - Lady Gaga, Melissa McCarthy and Yalitza Aparicio. This is the first Oscar win from the British actress and the actress was naturally thrilled and flustered which seemed evident in her winning speech.

King thanked her mom, who was her date to the Oscars and addressed her fellow nominees, whom she called her "sisters in art".

Road trip movie "Green Book" triumphed over "Roma" to win best the best picture Oscar on Sunday, denying Netflix bragging rights as the first streaming service to beat Hollywood at its own game.

Olivia Colman is the victor of the best actress Academy Award for "The Favourite". And then providing a disclaimer that anyone you miss thanking will be on the receiving end of a "massive snog".

Screenshots of Close's face after the announcement suggest the actress was just as surprised as Colman.

A Star is Born, starring queer icon Lady Gaga, took home best original song for "Shallow", which Gaga performed at the ceremony with Bradley Cooper. Colman is brilliant as a woman who spends most of her time in a wheelchair and is often the butt of ridicule.

Just months ago Malek was only really known to fans of the drama Mr Robot but he is now a global star thanks for his turn as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and an Oscar victor to boot.
