Orlando Apollos rout Atlanta in AAF debut, 40-6

The Orlando Apollo's are a member of The Alliance of American Football; this league consists of eight teams from the East and West coast.

For one thing, whatever they're paying Steve Spurrier, it isn't enough.

And fans - at least those in Orlando, Florida, who showed up in the rain for Steve Spurrier's debut in the new league Saturday night - are eager to buy.

Only time will tell if the league will stick around or work well over time.

The Spurrier known for his fun-and-gun offense dialed it up immediately, calling a deep post throw on the first play of the game.

"Well, it is a little unusual when you go out there to get ready for the opening kickoff and there is no opening kickoff", said a smiling Coyle. Of course, they were.

He led Florida to a national championship in 1996, left the Gators five years later to coach the Washington Redskins for two seasons, then ended a long college career when he walked away from a decade-long stay at SC six games into the 2015 season.

The Apollos quarterback Garrett Gilbert led the home team to a pair of touchdowns on two of the team's first three drives. Social media reaction to the games - San Diego Fleet vs. San Antonio Commanders, Atlanta Legends vs. Orlando Apollos - was mostly positive. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the first matchup, while NFL Network will take the nightcap. I think the fans had a good time tonight.

Salt Lake Stallions at Arizona Hotshots8 p.m. ET on NFL Network - Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. The sky judge will use real-time technology to correct clear errors involving player safety anytime during a game and pass interference inside of five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Teams must go for two after touchdowns as way to add excitement to the next play after a TD as many fans tune away from extra point attempts.

It was a night of balance as the Apollos looked strong holding Atlanta to just six points, both field goals and caused four turnovers.

In overtime, each team will get the ball at the opposing 10-yard line. The game will end in a tie if neither team scores.

There are no kickoffs, with each team starts a possession after a score or at the start of a half at its 25-yard line.

Onside kicks have been replaced by an onside conversion.

There are 8 teams in the AAF, with rosters consisting of local players.

What this means is when you start to root for those Steelers in training camp and preseason who really don't have a chance to make the team, you might see them in a Birmingham uniform next season.

Once an National Football League season comes to an end on the first Sunday in February, fans of the spot have to go months before any college or professional games occur.
