Jussie Smollett to perform in West Hollywood as attack investigation continues

Actor and singer Jussie Smollett told a packed crowd on Saturday that he won't let his attackers win, during an emotional concert that served as his first public appearance since being brutally beaten last week.

Empire co-creator Lee Daniels and actor Wilson Cruz, known for his groundbreaking role on My So-Called Life, were among those in the audience Smollett acknowledged while on stage.

He also clarified while on stage on Saturday that his ribs were bruised during the attack but not cracked, and that he had been medically cleared to perform.

"I'm not fully healed yet, but I'm going to and I'm going to stand strong with you all", he continued. And above all: I fought the f*ck back. "I couldn't let these motherf*****s win".

"I have so many words on my heart", the actor/singer said, addressing the 400-capacity club after embracing members of his family.

Added Jojo: "I wanted Jussie to sit this one out".

Chicago police are looking to identify and interview the two people pictured, who were walking in the area where Jussie Smollett said he was attacked.

Smollett took the stage at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California, after an introduction from his older brother Joel, who called him "a true artist" and "the epitome of love".

Jussie Smollett performed Saturday for the first time since it was reported that he was assaulted by two men in Chicago in the early morning hours of January 29.

The incident, which is now being investigated as a hate crime, caused a lot of worry amongst his followers and the general public.

According to police, Smollett was accosted last Tuesday in Chicago by two masked men shouting homophobic and racial slurs. Some cameras rotate and don't continuously capture footage of the same spots, so there is a good chance that detectives may not find footage of Smollett being attacked, he said. I went to the doctor immediately. He then paused and said, "I'm the gay Tupac". And I'm gonna stand strong with y'all.

At the end of his show right before doing an encore, Jussie Smollett wanted to confirm a few details regarding his attack. "My body is strong but my soul is stronger".

Investigators said they have video of Smollett entering the hotel after the alleged attack with what appears to be a noose around his neck. Regardless of what anyone else says, I will only stand for love. The offenders then became physically violent, battering the actor with their hands and pouring an "unknown chemical substance" on him, per the CPD.
