In an eventful third round of the new event in the Middle East, Li Haotong of China made four eagles, including two in his last two holes and three of them on par 4s, to share the lead with Dustin Johnson. For most of the day, Johnson, the world No 3, appeared certain to enjoy a handsome lead going into today's final round.

Having reached the turn at six under par, Johnson's hot streak continued with a birdie on hole two, before a 15-foot putt for eagle from off the green on hole four propelled him to the top of the leaderboard. He apologised for his behaviour and said in a statement released by the Tour: "I respect the decision of my disqualification".

Johnson, one of four of the leading five world-ranked players in the field players took the halfway lead with his brilliant round of 61 with seven birdies and an eagle.

The Chinese star had already carded an eagle and a birdie when he double-bogeyed the sixth, but his recovery was remarkable at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club. "I gave myself a lot of opportunities and made a lot of good putts". This is also the home of the 14 Club Challenge, Little Interviews, Fastest Hole and many more challenges, pranks and world record attempts featuring the biggest golfers in the world.

"You always have fun when you're playing well", Johnson said.

Johnson retained his lead heading into the final day with a three-under par 67 to hold off challenges from Li and Lewis, who finished two and three shots back respectively.

It declares that players are expected to play in the spirit of the game by acting with integrity, showing consideration to others and taking good care of the course. Those eagles, especially last couple shots, was really solid, but except that, honestly, my play, wasn't that good. "I hit it great in Abu Dhabi and lost a bit of the putting there on the weekend".

"It got me a European Tour event under my belt early, and I knew I had a month off after it". Just holed a few more yesterday than I did today, is the only difference. Garcia, to his credit I suppose, took responsibility for his actions after the punishment was handed down.
