Zac Efron’s ‘romanticised’ portrayal of serial killer Ted Bundy sparks outrage

Netflix wants you to stop thirsting after Ted Bundy

It's 1969 and Ted (Zac Efron) is crazy-handsome, smart, charismatic, affectionate.

'There are literally THOUSANDS of hot men on the service - nearly all of whom are not convicted serial murderers'.

The film has copped a ton of criticism for "romanticising" a man who admitted to killing at least 30 women by casting Efron, a beloved heartthrob, to play him. The four-part docu-series gives viewers a walk-through of his grisly crimes, and features audio from conversations with the killer behind bars.

Here are a couple of the concerning reactions: 'If I was a college-aged woman in 1978 I would volunteer to be Ted Bundy's 31st victim.' / 'Most attractive psychopath in the world'.

After people were livid about Zac Efron's portrayal of Ted Bundy in an upcoming biopic, Netflix decided to make a comment.

The "hot" talk became so rampant, the official Netflix account had to come out and tell people the extremely obvious: Ted Bundy was a serial killer.

"The movie does glorify it more than I think it should be".

After committing a series of horrifying murders and rapes, Ted Bundy was executed by electric chair in January 1989.

The trailer for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile has just been released.

She said she doesn't have a problem with him playing the serial killer, and even though the actor is a known sex symbol, Stapley says "that is what Ted Bundy kind of was" too.

"I believe that in order to show him exactly the way he was, it's not really glorifying him, but it's showing him, and when they do say positive and wonderful things about him. that's what they saw, that's what Bundy wanted you to see", she continued. After the documentary, Berlinger wants to explore the Bundy myth otherwise with a cinematic biopic. Between the murderer's charisma and manipulative charm, both of which are unflinchingly demonstrated in The Ted Bundy Tapes, along with Zac Efron portraying him with Hollywood appeal, the lives Bundy ended become a non-issue since he was "hot af".

Speaking to E! at the festival, Zac said: 'People that watched the trial, that were with him in prison, on his defence team, anybody who knew him growing up, they never had bad things to say about the guy.
