Now, he'll hope to lead West Virginia to the same successful standard.

The move comes only two days after former Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen was officially hired at Houston.

Troy coach Neal Brown is expected to be the next coach at West Virginia, sources with knowledge of the situation told Yahoo Sports. Now, the Trojans are looking for just their third coach since 1991. But West Virginia surely had some idea Holgorsen would look to leave, as his buyout dropped a lot at the dawn of the new year, and the move to hire Brown may have been on its way to being ordained before (perhaps well before) Holgorsen's departure was official.

"I feel good about [West Virginia] especially with coach Brown and his staff there".

Brown went 35-16 in four seasons with Troy and won Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2017. Brown went 4-8 in his debut, then 31-8 over the past three years with one Sun Belt title and wins at Nebraska and LSU.

Troy has recorded three straight double-digit win seasons, each of which ended with a bowl victory.

Brown's Troy teams developed a reputation as giant-killers.

Brown, who is only 38, is a native of Danville, Kentucky, which is roughly a six-hour drive from Morgantown, and began his college playing career at Kentucky before transferring to UMass. The Trojans ran the ball on 55.4 percent of their offensive plays in 2018, which ranked 49th nationally.
