I believe in second chances. "While Ellen's re-telling of the conversation is a loose paraphrasing of it, the bottomline is this: Hart was always among the top choices to host this year's show".

The news wasn't given 24 hours before it was met with controversy when internet trolls drudged up tweets from ten years ago where Kevin Hart, admittingly, negatively spoke about not wanting his son to be gay. "Whatever we can do we would be thrilled, '" she told Mr. Hart. The comedian said he wouldn't say sorry because he already apologized for the same tweets in the past.

"I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many unbelievable talented artists", he wrote on social media.

"After a day full of celebrations and congratulations, I'm hit with an onslaught, on social media, of my past, coming back up again... literally the next morning", the comedian says, referring to the homophobic tweets he posted between 2009-11. I am evolving and want to continue to do so.

The former Saturday Night Live star added "FREE LOUIE [sic] CK!" and declared that if Hart doesn't host the Oscars he will boycott.

Hart, who was there to promote his new movie, The Upside, said, "I'm evaluating this conversation".

Hart stepped down from the hosting gig in December, shortly after it was announced that he would host the annual awards show because of controversy concerning past tweets that were deemed homophobic.

"What we're going to get to see on stage with you hosting the Oscars is sophistication, class, hilarity and you growing as a person", Ellen told Hart on Friday's show.

Morgan responded to these comments, tweeting: "Homophobia's homophobia".

And while Hart and DeGeneres' heart-to-heart seemed to be okay for a few minutes, shocked viewers soon started to react - and not in a good way.

But Nick Levine, a United Kingdom journalist who writes about pop culture and LGBTQ issues, told the BBC: "Like Ellen DeGeneres, I believe in forgiveness and second chances, but I also believe those things need to be earned. I think they were secretly hoping that you would come back", she added. "You can't let them destroy you and they can't destroy you because you have too much talent. You've already expressed that it's not being educated on the subject, not realising how unsafe those words are, not realising how many kids are killed for being gay or beaten up every day", says DeGeneres.

Hart told DeGeneres he was "evaluating" retaking the hosting position.

She then said that as a gay person, she is sensitive to gay jokes, but knows he has matured and evolved. I don't need the Academy to make the Oscars "hip" or bring in an edgy comedian who's going to appeal to a younger demographic.

"You have grown; you have apologised; you're apologising again right now". This is stuff I've addressed; I've talked about this stuff.
