CNN reports that the call came in at 6:30 p.m.as Trump and first lady Melania Trump spoke on separate phones to children who had been patched through to them after calling NORAD.

Stuck in Washington on Christmas morning 2018, Trump displayed little holiday cheer while speaking with reporters after a 20-minute video conference with USA troops serving overseas.

"What's Santa going to get you for Christmas", Trump asked another child. She responded, "Yes, sir", and Trump added, "Because at 7, that's marginal, right?"

Collman didn't know what "marginal" meant and simply answered, "Yes, sir".

After a brief pause, Trump chuckled for a second and said, "Well, you just enjoy yourself".

Mr Trump's chat with Collman was initially reported as being with a boy named Coleman.
