Ralph Hasenhuttl has warned he will trim Southampton's squad before seeking new signings in the January transfer window.

A new coach will take the team tomorrow, and the agreement was signed two and a half years.

"This managerial change offers us a fresh start and, very quickly, Ralph emerged as our ideal candidate".

Lax defending from Southampton allowed Spurs to take a ninth-minute lead.

"While we're here the fans have been fantastic".

He said: "At 3-0 maybe we drop a little bit in our concentration I think we start to think the game was over and always it is so unsafe when there is so much time to play".

Mauricio Pochettino, who made Davis his first captain at Southampton in 2013, was pleased to see his side bounce back after their north London defeat and climb back above Arsenal in the table.

"Of course in the end, Lloris was man of the match because it was an unbelievable action that save, but that we can not afford".

"I'm delighted to be back in the team and to get the three points".

The engaging Hasenhuttl, who joked that his surname translates into English as "rabbit hutch", fired a word of warning that he will ship out any players not ready for hard work.

Callum Paterson scored Cardiff's only goal as the hosts secured their fourth win from five home matches.

The Premier League match between Cardiff and Southampton will be broadcast online.

"I know there are no guarantees of winning and the only thing we have is to work on chances".

Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen has provided at least one assist in each of his last three Premier League games (four total), the first time he has done so within a single campaign since April 2016.

The new boss watched his team lose 3-1 to Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday and quickly noticed one area of concern - the defence.

Southampton have won just nine points from their opening 15 games this season.

Kane has been directly involved in nine goals in his last seven Premier League games against Southampton, scoring seven times and laying on a further two assists.

But he left all three clubs.
