Police searching for British woman in Auckland after radio silence with family

Out of character: Grace Millane failed to reply to birthday messages

Out of character: Grace Millane failed to reply to birthday messages

Meanwhile, her father had chose to fly to Auckland from Essex, in southeast England, on Wednesday night (England time) and was due to arrive in New Zealand on Friday.

"She was in a very unusual place to stand, I would have thought a hitchhiker would have stopped on the left-hand side to get in the vehicle, she was on the other side".

There is "no evidence of foul play" in the case of a British backpacker who has gone missing in Auckland, police say.

"We are asking anybody who has been in contact with her or knows her to contact police".

Her family in the United Kingdom raised the alarm on Monday and Detective Inspector Scott Beard said her disappearance was "out of character".

She has not returned to her Auckland hostel in several days.

"It was what she wanted - she wanted to see the world", Michael said.

"We tried ringing up the hostel, which is the Base Backpackers in Auckland, which were very helpful trying to track her down", her brother said.

'We are really, really anxious and concerned about Grace.

"The concern is that the family have not heard from her and when her 22nd birthday was on 2 December, that's when you'd expect to hear or for them to contact her so that's why there's concern".

A missing persons report was filed on Wednesday and "initial investigations are underway", New Zealand Police told Yahoo7.

Grace Millane is a 22-year-old woman from Essex, UK who arrived in New Zealand about two weeks ago.

'Grace has been missing for five days.

Grace Millane's current profile picture on Facebook was uploaded on November 29 - two days before she disappeared.

Can everyone please share this, we haven't heard from my sister since Saturday is now travelling in New Zealand and was last seen in Auckland.

"We are unable to make further comment while police are investigating the matter".

Ms Millane had previously written on social media.

Grace Millane had been in New Zealand for about two weeks.

In another tweet the day before she went missing she said: 'I think travelling has changed me I just bought some blue jeans'.

Grace graduated from the University of Lincoln in September after studying advertising and marketing.

She also made money selling paintings which she exhibits on her own website.
