The following text replaced the original, erroneous report: "The message "Syria's air defense shot down an Israeli military aircraft" is canceled due to a source refutation".

Another Syrian news agency claimed that the sites belonged to Iranian militias, but this report is yet to be confirmed.

"Israeli forces bombarded for an hour positions in the southern and southwestern suburbs of Damascus as well as in the south of Syria at the border of Quneitra province", the Observatory's chief Rami Abdel Rahmane said of the two main areas struck, including one believed to be an Iranian weapons depot near the capital. In addition, Syrian state television reported that "the Israeli attack did not achieve its goals because the hostile targets were shot down".

"Our air defenses fired on hostile targets over the Kisweh area and downed them", SANA said, citing a military source. The Astana process followed a Russian military intervention which tipped the military balance in favor of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's authoritarian regime.

He added that Israel would "continue security coordination" with Russian Federation.

But on Friday Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it found the remnants of a Syrian anti-aircraft missile in an open field in the Golan Heights.

Focusing its attention on Friday's US-led coalition attack on the village of al-Safa, which led to the deaths of over 30 civilians, as well as the Israeli air forces' alleged Thursday strikes, the letter argued that the strikes "clearly reflect the US's disregard for humanitarian values and its confempt for global law".

"We did not shoot down an Israeli plane", the official said, contradicting reports from Thursday night quoting a Syrian defense official that air defense systems had shot at and downed "hostile targets".

Israel has reportedly carried out airstrikes in Southern Syria targeting Iranian militias, in its first publicised strike since September. "This is just another piece of evidence that Israel supports terrorist groups and is trying to prolong the conflict in Syria".

Following the incident, Russian Federation sent advanced air defense missiles to Damascus.

The Sept. 17 downing by Syrian anti-aircraft fire, after Israeli jets attacked a suspected Iranian arms shipment to Syria, caused a diplomatic rift between Israel and Russian Federation, and Moscow blamed Israel for the incident.
