Red Dead Online's beta goes live for everyone this week

It's time to live out your own personal Western fantasy when Red Dead Redemption 2's counterpart to Grand Theft Auto Online launches its beta tomorrow called as one would expect, Red Dead Online. We entered this week wondering if Rockstar would meet that launch window, but even though it's getting pretty down to the wire, it looks like it will. You'll no doubt be able to change your character's appearance in-game throughout the world of Red Dead Online, whether visiting the tailors, barbers, or shaving station just as you would in the single player portion of Red Dead Redemption 2.

November 28: Red Dead Online expands to those who played on October 26.

"To help us ease into the beta and to mitigate major issues, we will begin the early access period starting Tuesday, November 27 at 8:30am EST, and gradually scale the player base up to full access beginning on Friday, November 30". It should be similar in size on the Xbox One. The hope is that doing so will allow them to better manage the growth of players concurrently online, preventing the servers from crashing and giving the beta a smoother launch. There's still a lot that's not known about Red Dead Online, though you will take control of a custom character.

Red Dead Online will be in early access and beta phase for now.

Red Dead Redemption 2's map is huge, but any town cannot be big enough for the two of us if you just believe.

Rockstar Games gave more details Monday to its upcoming Red Dead Online experience, including the much-anticipated info on its player count per session. For a full breakdown of Red Dead Online's expected features, check out our complete rundown on news and leaks so far.

Red Dead Online will feature cooperative and competitive gameplay options and a detailed, open world that can contain multiple players.

It seems the camp mentality will be carrying over too, with up to seven players able to form a posse who can gather round fires, go hunting, fishing, attack hideouts, hunt treasure, and visit key locations from across the main campaign.
