While Kotaku usually gets solid information from its sources, Blizzard has come out to deny claims that Diablo 4 was initially set to be announced at Blizzcon. Others were concerned Diablo Immortal is being created in a partnership with NetEase, whose games are known for pushing gamers to buy digital items with real money.

The problem, as many see it, is that while Blizzard did advise fans in October to temper their expectations for Diablo at BlizzCon, the studio has also been teasing "multiple Diablo projects" for months.

If Blizzard had shared a teaser for Diablo 4 at BlizzCon, even a wafer-thin one like a GIF of a flaming "4", Diablo Immortal's reception may have been more positive. One of those people told me that the Diablo team wasn't yet ready to commit to an announcement, as Diablo 4 has changed drastically over the past four years and may continue to change further. That hope was despite the fact that Blizzard had put out a statement ahead of BlizzCon saying that no major Diablo announcements would be made during the conference. The fan backlash against the game was strong enough that Activision Blizzard's stock price was impacted. Citing two sources "familiar with Blizzard's plans", the report says that there was a video in which Allen Adham, Blizzard co-founder, talked about a new Diablo project, pretty much confirming its development. As it turns out, Kotaku has learned, Blizzard had originally planned to tease Diablo 4, but pulled those plans at the last minute. Blizzard has assured fans publicly that it has multiple Diablo games in development.

Earlier today Warhammer: Chaosbane, an upcoming action-RPG that looks incredibly similar to Diablo, took a jab at Diablo Immortal on Twitter.

A lot of fans don't seem to believe any of this though and have accused Blizzard of trying to deflect attention away from the unpopular Diablo Immortal announcement. But then fans quickly proved themselves to be that messy bitch who hurls things at their significant other because how dare Blizzard show up with a pearl necklace when it knew they were waiting for a diamond ring.
