West Indies have endured a hard tour, losing both Tests inside three days and then going down 3-1 in the subsequent one-day series.

In 2018, Dhoni, who has also captained India to 50-over World Cup glory in 2011, managed only 245 runs at 27.22 in 17 matches.

With Virat Kohli rested ahead of the bigger battles down under, India's stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma will have the task of improving India's record against the visitors.

Kohli's absence would mean KL Rahul will come into the picture while Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant are expected to add firepower in the middle order alongside Krunal Pandya.

In Cricket, the first Twenty-20 global of the 3-match series between India and the West Indies will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata this evening. They have not lost to India in previous four encounters and they will bank on happy memories of their previous encounter at the Eden Gardens when current captain Carlos Brathwaite hit four sixes in the final over against England to hand Windies their second WT20 trophy in 2014. He would look to carry his fine form from the ODI series, in which he finished behind Kohli, with 389 runs, at a staggering average of 129.66. India's last win against the Windies came way back on March 23, 2014 in the World T20 in Bangladesh. The Kolkata Knight Riders star, a crowd favourite at the Eden Gardens, has been ruled out of the entire series with an injury.

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (wk), Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal.

The first T20I will start at 7 pm local time and 2:30 pm BST. The hosts thumped Windies in the Test and ODI series respectively and will look to finish off on victory in the T20I series as well.

The Windies are a different team when it comes to T20s, with the likes of Keiron Pollard, Andre Russell, skipper Carlos Brathwaite, Dareen Bravo and latest sensation Shimron Hetmyer in their ranks.
