Notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger was found dead at a federal prison in West Virginia Tuesday, federal officials said.

Bulger was born September 3, 1929, in Boston.

The couple would sob as they read the other's notes, according to the Boston Globe.

Bulger was behind only 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden for much of his time on the FBI's list of fugitive criminals.

"The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia and the FBI will be conducting an investigation into the death of James Bulger". Bulger was born in South Boston during the Depression, who got the nickname "Whitey" growing up for his blonde hair.
