The jury of four women and eight men also found Bulger guilty of participating in 11 murders.

Notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger was found dead at a federal prison in West Virginia Tuesday, federal officials said.

Whitey Bulger as he was arrested by the FBI, June 22, 2011.

Bulger was born September 3, 1929, in Boston.

The couple would sob as they read the other's notes, according to the Boston Globe.

Bulger was behind only 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden for much of his time on the FBI's list of fugitive criminals.

"The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia and the FBI will be conducting an investigation into the death of James Bulger". She was the best thing that ever happened to me, ' he added. A high school dropout, Bulger began a life of crime that eventually led to prison stays at Alcatraz and Leavenworth. In 1994, after learning of an impending indictment, Bulger went into hiding and remained at large for 16 years.

In another jailhouse letter he decries Greig's sentencing.

"The testimony of human suffering that you and your associates inflicted on others was at times antagonizing to hear and painful to watch", Judge Denise Casper said during the sentencing. But in his case, it was never clear who was informing to who.

Bulger, previously held in Florida, was convicted of 11 murders himself during his bloody reign as crime boss in his hometown of Boston. Richard Heldreth, president of Local 420 of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents workers at USP Hazelton, told WVNews there was a homicide overnight, but he wasn't told who was killed.

Bulger was born in South Boston during the Depression, who got the nickname "Whitey" growing up for his blonde hair.
