It was moving west at 12 miles per hour.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 miles per hour (95 km/h) with higher gusts.

According to the National Hurricane Center, additional strengthening is forecast during the next several days, and Oscar is expected to make a transition to a tropical storm on Sunday.

Forecasters at the Miami-based hurricane center say Oscar should continue westward during the night before beginning a turn toward the west-northwest.

At 1100 a.m. AST (1500 UTC), the center of Subtropical Storm Oscar was located near latitude 27.3 north, longitude 48.4 west.

Tthe Bermuda Weather Service said "moderate to strong winds and large swell at beaches are expected ton Tuesday as Hurricane Oscar passes to the distant east".

But Tropical Storm Oscar, earlier said to be a potential threat to Bermuda, had altered track and was no longer viewed as a danger.

No coastal watches of warnings are in effect.

Hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean usually starts from the month of June and lasts till November 30.
