Khashoggi, a Virginia resident and a columnist for The Washington Post who was also a critic of Saudi Arabia's rulers, was killed Oct 2 by a team of Saudi agents in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

His comments came after Saudi Attorney General Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb met with Istanbul chief prosecutor Irfan Fidan in the Turkish city's main Caglayan court for around 75 minutes, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

The Turkish government, frustrated by a murder by foreigners within its borders, has pointed the finger at Saudi leaders.

While the U.S. has condemned Khashoggi's killing - Trump called it "one of the worst in the history of cover-ups" - the president and his top aides have repeatedly signaled that the broader U.S. -Saudi relationship, including billions of dollars in military sales, shouldn't be put at risk over the journalist's death.

Ms Cengiz emotionally said: "President Trump should help reveal the truth and ensure justice is served.

They need to explain", Hatice Cengiz, the fiancée of Khashoggi, said on Monday night.

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told reporters on Sunday that Saudi Arabia promised to investigate fully the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in the Turkish Consulate in Istanbul.

Trump has not said what he thinks the U.S. should do in response, aside from the immediate revocation of the visas of the culprits.

Cengiz described Khashoggi as a "martyr for a cause" and said she hoped his body would be returned soon so his loved ones could bury him.

The article also claimed that the unnamed source confirmed that MI6 - British Secret Intelligence Service - had warned Saudi Arabian counterparts to cancel the mission but this request was ignored.

"On the issue of extradition, the individuals are Saudi nationals".

Speaking at the same event, the former chairman of the Commons foreign affairs select committee, Crispin Blunt, said Khashoggi's death represented a moment of truth. Saudi Arabia's foreign minister said on Saturday that it won't extradite any suspects to Turkey, despite calls by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to do so as a sign of goodwill.

"I am sure the Saudi regime knows where his body is". Some of those implicated in the killing are close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom's heir-apparent whose condemnation of the killing has failed to ease suspicions that he was involved.

The Washington Post reported in 2016 on the use by Saudi Arabia of US -supplied white phosphurus so it's not clear just what Khashoggi would have been exposing if he, indeed, was about to obtain documentary evidence. "I want to know the details of who is responsible".

President Trump has said he will follow Congress' lead on potential punishing actions for the USA ally that has committed to a defence deal with American companies that's could be more than $100 billion.
