Mighty Winx wins record fourth Cox Plate

Waller is convinced Winx is as well as ever and goes into Saturday in basically the same condition as before her third Cox Plate previous year when she repelled a strong challenge from Humidor to better the 2040m track record she had set in her first Cox Plate in 2015. In doing so the seven year old wonder from Down Under secured a 29th consecutive victory, 22 of them at group one level, and took her career earnings to more than £12m.

Trainer Chris Waller's trademark emotion - reserved only for Winx - spilled over post-race, while Bowman was welcomed by his two daughters, Bambi and Paige, post-race in their first trip to the track together.

"What I would really like to do is say this will be her race", Waller said.

"The build-up to a fourth Cox Plate was pretty intense", he said.

"To do this 28 times in a row shows she is superior to what she is racing against in this era".

"He's been a lovely sound horse and never had a problem so it wasn't a great race for the stable".

"I'll hand the reins over to Hugh and try to watch the race on my own".

"We're just making sure she's still as good as the year before, or even six months".

Winx is washed down by stablehands at Moonee Valley after a workout.

"Please, just look at how she does it and appreciate what she's done".

"With numerous males we don't see the best ones beyond their four-year-old seasons. Obviously, the day will come eventually when we have to consider retirement and when she is going to have babies".

"That is why we are so lucky with Winx because her owners bought her to race and because she is in the form that she is and she is happy to race, they (owners) are happy to continue to do so".
