Kohli smashes Tendulkar's record in reaching 10 000 ODI runs

He broke the record of cricket's god Sachin Tendulkar. He took just 205 innings to reach the landmark, an incredible 54 innings lesser than the previous record holder, Sachin Tendulkar. In an interview with bcci.tv., Kohli said that he "never imagined" he will join the 10k-run club when he first started as an worldwide cricketer back in 2008.

Kohli is fifth Indian to reach the milestone and join an elite club dominated by Asian players.

Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the fastest cricketer to reach 10,000 runs in one-day internationals during the second match of the series against the Windies at Vizag. However, none had managed to collect 10,000 runs faster than Tendulkar.

Dhoni got to the 10,000-run mark in his 273rd innings earlier this year in England.

Kohli, who completed the fastest 10,000 ODI runs eclipsing Sachin Tendulkar by an astounding 54 innings, feels that "nothing should be taken for granted" as it's a privilege that only few are bestowed with while a whole lot of them can only aspire.

Ricky Ponting (266) and Jacques Kallis (272) round off the list of the five quickest players to reach the milestone.

Kohli certainly seems unstoppable at the moment as he has followed up the century (140 off 107 balls) he had hit in the first ODI in Guwahati with another fine half-century in the ongoing 2nd ODI in Visakhapatnam.

The India captain has dominated with the bat in ODIs in recent years.

The 29-year-old, who is ranked No.1 on the ICC batting charts, is inarguably the best batsman in the 50-over format now in the world.
