Megyn Kelly's future at NBC uncertain after show comes to an end

Her 9 a.m. show "Megyn Kelly Today" is ending, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.

Mediaite reports that after she pushed back on NBC's handling of Farrow's story, over the next few weeks, Kelly's relationship with NBC "soured". TMZ later reported that Kelly was ousted.

Megyn Kelly's original comments about blackface which aired on the Tuesday edition of Megyn Kelly Today.

With the next presidential election about to kick into high gear, Kelly wanted to be in a position where she could cover the race to the fullest extent.

"She's lawyered up, multi-year contract", the insider added. Executives at Fox were desperate to keep her since they had just recently lost another big name prime-time anchor, Bill O'Reilly, due to a sexual harassment scandal.

"Megyn Kelly's litigator Bryan Freedman is meeting with NBC execs [Friday] and has requested that Ronan Farrow attend, so he can be a witness", a source told the tabloid.

After her Fox News contract expired Kelly went to NBC News and is reportedly paid approximately $20 million a year.

NBC aired a rerun from August 31 in the show's time slot on Thursday and they will run tapes again Friday, an NBC spokesperson told TPM Thursday.

"But what is racist?" All that for wondering whether it'd be offensive for a white adult who sincerely admired a black person to dress up as them, replete with skin-darkening, as a tribute for Halloween. "Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character".

One key question: Whether she will stay with NBC News in some other role. Multiple news outlets are reporting that Kelly is leaving NBC altogether. "The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep". I defended the idea (of blackface), saying that as long it was respectful and part of a Halloween costume, that it seemed OK. "I'm Megyn Kelly and I want to begin with two words: I'm sorry", she began.

We're told Freedman's case is that Kelly was targeted early on after she made critical remarks about Matt Lauer on her show after he was sacked for sexual harassment.

NBC representatives said they had no comment beyond the discussion of why Kelly wasn't on the air Thursday. Al Roker and Craig Melvin strongly criticized Kelly's comments during the 7 a.m. hour of "Today" on Wednesday.

Sources told ET last January that Kelly's decision to leave Fox News after 12 years was one based on her wanting to spend more time with her family as opposed to her salary. We estimate her net worth now at $30 million, though that number is from when we were factoring in the assumption that she would earn the full amount of the NBC contract.
