Prince Harry and Meghan begin tour of Fiji

Meghan Markle’s Fiji Trip Cut Short Due To Security Concerns Larger Than Expected Crowds

Meghan Markle’s Fiji Trip Cut Short Due To Security Concerns Larger Than Expected Crowds

The Duchess - who was known as Meghan Markle prior to marrying her husband at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in May - was forced to withdraw from some of her planned engagements due to tiredness earlier this week.

A day after Kensington Palace announced Meghan's pregnancy, Harry told fans in Australia, "We also genuinely couldn't think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby...whether it's a boy or a girl".

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have arrived in Fiji, where they were greeted by a Guard of Honour at Nausori Airport.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry sported a smart grey suit, with his military medals pinned to his chest, for the momentous occasion, looking every bit the proud soldier. There was a light drizzle and an official held an umbrella above Meghan's head.

The couple began the day with a traditional ceremony, called the Veiqaravi Vakavanua, which celebrates Fijian identity and culture and is meant to welcome honored guests, according to the Ministry for Pacific Peoples. Members of the public are invited and 15,000 are expected to attend.

They then attended a state dinner hosted by the president of the South Pacific nation Jioji Konrote at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that pregnant women not travel to a number of countries including Fiji and Tonga because of the presence of the mosquito-borne Zika virus, which can cause severe birth defects.

However, Robin Nair, who was Fiji's foreign affairs permanent secetary before he resigned past year has expressed concern that Prime Minster Frank Bainimarama will take "full advantage" of the royal couple's visit.

And just like the country welcomed Elizabeth and Philip all those times, they gave that same love to Harry and Meghan.

Perry reported from Wellington, New Zealand.
