The Latest: Khashoggi's Fiancée Put Under Police Protection

Turkish officials say Khashoggi was tortured, murdered and dismembered by a squad of 15 Saudi hit men shortly after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Istanbul police found the diplomatic vehicle that was seen outside the Saudi consulate the day Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the city's Sultangazi district. Al-Madani had reportedly been a member of the 15-person team sent from Saudi Arabia to intercept Khashoggi.

He told MPs: 'We have an important strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia involving defence and security co-operation which has saved lives on the streets of Britain. Why were 18 people arrested?

"They made a mistake when they killed Jamal Khashoggi in the consulate, and they tried to cover up for it".

Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency reported Sunday that Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, has been given 24-hour police protection.

Turkish investiagtors have for days been scouring the consulate, the consul-general's house and woodland areas on the city's outskirts for Khashoggi's remains.

Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir said in an interview with United States television channel Fox on the same day that Prince Mohammed had no knowledge of Khashoggi's death.

The remaining 17 personnel - who are Turkish and foreign nationals - are expected to appear at the courthouse to submit their testimonies as part of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's probe, the sources added. "That is unacceptable to the government".

Kushner, who speaks regularly to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, said he told the leader "just to be transparent, to be fully transparent", but that "we'll see" if he follows that advice.

The discovery of the Mercedes came as five more Turkish employees of the Saudi mission testified on October 22.

Saudi Arabia said Mohammed spoke Monday by telephone with Khashoggi's son to express condolences for the killing.

He also dismissed claims of "bargaining" between Saudi Arabia and Turkey as "immoral". "A loss of influence in the region would cost us much more than the lack of arms sales", the minister said.

Saudi Arabia's explanation that Khashoggi was killed in a "fistfight" and 18 Saudis have been detained has been met with global scepticism and allegations of a cover-up created to absolve Prince Mohammed of direct responsibility.

The Trump administration says it is continuing to weigh how to respond to the escalating diplomatic crisis with one of its closest allies. Speaking late Saturday after a campaign rally in Nevada, Trump said he needs to learn more about the killing and will be working with Congress on the USA response.

"The world is watching", Kushner said was his advice to Prince Mohammed. The kingdom acknowledged Khashoggi's death on Saturday, saying he was killed in a "fistfight".

"The Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman was not aware of this, even the senior leadership of the intelligent service was not aware of this", Al-Jubeir said.
