Verizon temporarily removes SIM locks from Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

Pixel 3 Pre-orders

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are now available, depending on where you're getting your device. Verizon has not yet clarified if it's enough to stick in an active Verizon SIM to perform the activation but even the 24-hour wait might be a hassle.

The first to do so is the trusty iFixit, and while digging through the Pixel 3 XL's innards didn't result in any groundbreaking discoveries, there are still a few interesting changes compared to the last generation of Pixel phones.

Tech giant Google recently launched its flagship smartphones - Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL at an event in NY.

Verizon remains the exclusive Pixel 3 carrier in the USA, and that isn't such a great thing this year, as the Pixel 3 phones are locked to Verizon's network.

Although Google has unveiled its mostly unsurprising Pixel 3 range, the pair has yet to fall into the hands of customers who've pre-ordered. Verizon's policy on the matter is also rather unclear at the moment.

The Pixel 3 XL is nearly available in Canada.

Impact: While this seems like a positive move from Verizon, it still remains to be seen how effective it will be in the long term.

This causing early Pixel 3 buyers, especially those from Best Buy, some frustration.

We've rounded up the best cases out there. This is likely why Verizon has now reverted its stance on a temporary basis so that at the very least it can fulfill current orders and take new ones while it addresses the locking issue in general.

At launch, there was an update related to an automatic overnight unlock on Pixel 3s, which also showed up on phones sold in Best Buy stores.
