PSN Name Changes Confirmed, Coming to PlayStation Preview Program Soon

That means users with the foresight to register for the PS4 beta track will get the name change option before any others.

In the meantime, ID change will be available in beta form through the PlayStation Preview Program. It will then roll out to everyone worldwide in early 2019.

The PSN Online ID Change feature beta will initially become available in the PlayStation Preview Program, which includes select users that have participated in system software betas in the past. This is a choice users will have to make; once you decide to display your old ID or not, you won't be able to change this.

If you've been itching to change your questionable PlayStation Network name, your chance is coming.

The format holder confirmed the news in a post on the PlayStation Blog, revealing that a beta for PSN ID Change (as it's officially known as) will be released in November, before rolling out to all PS4 owners in early 2019.

Sony claims that name changes may cause "issues" with certain games, and only games published after April 1, 2018 are guaranteed to work perfectly with name changes.

You'll have the option to revert to your old name if you do have issues, but Shuman's exact words are that this will solve most issues.

Players who choose to change their ID will be given the option to display their old one alongside it so that friends can recongise them but you won't be able to adjust this after completing the change. These links leave Siliconera.

Rumours began swirling last week when anonymous sources claimed that developers were working on the ability to swap in-game names on Sony's PlayStation Network - a feature distinctly missing for over a decade.

During the preview, you will be able to change your online ID as many times as you want. "Changes to online ID can be made through the Settings menu or via the Profile page of your PS4".
