20 Killed In Car Crash In Upstate New York Involving A Limo Say Police

Some 20 minutes later, the limousine came over a steep hill and headed down toward a T-shaped intersection in Schoharie.

The limousine that ran the stop sign was cited for code violations September 4, including a problem with the antilock brake system malfunction indicator system. He said the limo was carrying out-of-towners during a busy tourist weekend, Stone Fort Days.

"I join all New Yorkers in mourning these deaths and share in the unspeakable sorrow experienced by their families and loved ones during this extremely hard time", Cuomo said.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which investigates all major civilian transportation accidents, said that it had sent a "go-team" to the crash site to assist with investigations.

The limo passengers were travelling to a 30th birthday party when the accident happened, killing all 18 people inside the limo and two other bystanders.

"If there's anything they feel is unsafe that they would not operate that vehicle, they will write that up on a sheet that goes to our service department and that vehicle would be taken out of service immediately", Palfy said.

She and her husband Rob lived in Watertown, New York, according to her Facebook page.

Erin and Shane McGowan - who also married in June - died, too, in the tragic accident, say relatives.

"It's tragic. awful. I can't even begin to even explain". Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, although they've set up a hotline for family members. "Our lives have been changed forever".

Vertucci, who grew up in Amsterdam, New York, was an administrative assistant at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam, Abeling said.

Abby Jackson's sisters, Amy Steenburg, Mary Dyson and Allison King, all perished in the crash as they were on their way to celebrate Amy's 30th birthday.

"There was seven of us - five sisters and two brothers", King told The Post.

Patrick Cushing, and his girlfriend of two years, Amanda Halse, have also been confirmed as among the dead.

"The family believes that unbeknownst to him he was provided with a vehicle that was neither roadworthy nor safe for any of its occupants", the lawyer, George Longworth, said in a statement. Explaining it was in an obvious state of disrepair, she told one friend that "the motor is making everyone deaf".

"These were friends just starting their lives, getting married and this is how it ended", Abeling said. "She was a lovely, sweet soul".

Questions have been raised before about safety issues with stretch limousine vehicles.

The limo company has been identified as Prestige Limousine Chauffeur Service in Gansevoort, New York, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation.

"I don't want to describe the scene", Kirby told the newspaper. At this time, Ford does not have any information about the vehicle involved in this accident, but we are ready to cooperate with agencies who are investigating.

Calls to the Apple Barrel Country Store and Cafe were not answered Sunday afternoon. But Sumwalt said the investigation was a priority and would be thorough.

"They were wonderful girls", Douglas said. "Thank you for understanding".

The crash occurred outside the Apple Barrel Country Store, and multiple people in the store's parking lot were killed when the limousine sped down a hill and hit them, the store's manager told the New York Times. "I join all New Yorkers in mourning these deaths and share in the unspeakable sorrow experienced by their families and loved ones during this extremely hard time". Four women were killed in that accident due to a side impact of the passenger compartment of the stretch limo - the weakest part of the auto. Investigators also plan to look into whether the design of the roadway was a factor in the crash. In limousines, rear passengers are not required to wear seat belts, Goelz said.
