Trump says had 'good talk' with Rosenstein; no plans to fire him

- President Trump visited Orlando this Monday and delivered a speech, as he attended the International Association of Chiefs of Police at the Orange County Convention Center.

Trump - who had delayed a previously announced White House meeting in which expectations were high that Rosenstein would depart - said they were going to talk Monday during a trip to Florida.

Rosenstein had appeared close to being fired following U.S. media reports - which he denied - that he discussed secretly recording Trump and using the 25th constitutional amendment for removing presidents found to be unfit for office.

Should Rosenstein quit or be fired, his departure would be nearly certain to raise controversy, as he is the top Justice Department official overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation to sway the 2016 election.

"No, I don't. No", Trump said when asked.

Fresh off his victory of Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court, President Trump doubled-down on his commitment to being the "law and order" president by suggesting Chicago could curtail gun violence by using "stop and frisk" - the famous NY law enabling officers to temporarily detain, question, and frisk civilians upon "reasonable suspicion".

Rosenstein and Trump delayed a planned September 27 one-on-one meeting until Monday to allow Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's contentious confirmation process to play out.

"No I don´t, no", Trump responded to a question from journalists at the White House about whether he plans to sack Rod Rosenstein.

A planned meeting between Rosenstein and Trump was canceled and no new date was set. He survived again on Monday.

"Any effort to undermine the Mueller investigation will be obstruction of justice", Hoyer said. Trump similarly said he'd prefer to leave him on the job.

The documents reportedly chronicle conversations in which Rosenstein discussed the idea of secretly recording Trump for the goal of invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. Some Democrats are threatening to impeach Kavanaugh if they gain control of Congress.

Trump allies have urged the president not to fire Rosenstein, saying it would create more problems than it solves, according to USA Today.

"We are pushing very hard to make sure that he comes in under oath to Congress and let the American people judge for themselves", House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., told Fox News late last month. Don't hit their head, I said, 'You can take the hand away, OK?' " he added.
