The Walking Dead Hershel Greene Scott Wilson

This weekend, it was revealed by new Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang that Scott Wilson's Hershel Greene would be making a surprise return to that universe for Season 9, presumably in a flashback or dream sequence. The announcement became even more poignant, however, as shortly after the panel, news spread that Scott Wilson had died of complications from leukemia.

The Walking Dead star Scott Wilson has passed away. Rest in paradise, Scott. Wilson played the role of Hershel Greene in the show, but his character was discontinued after Season 4, wherein he was killed by the Governor.

"We are very excited to bring the show and the mobile game together with the exclusive missions in The Walking Dead: Our World". The spokesman went on to say that Scott's character on The Walking Dead, "lived at the emotional core of the show", which has been echoed by critics and fans of the show as well.

He received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Captain Billy Cutshaw in The Ninth Configuration in 1980, and had also appeared in episodes of Law and Order, The Twilight Zone, and The X-Files. The actor joined the AMC zombie series in season two, with his character ultimately dying in the fourth season while in prison. "Don't make me cry", the actor added to a jammed packed venue.

Earlier in his tribute, Hardwick said he was "utterly broken hearted to hear about the passing of Scott Wilson this evening".

The role in "In Cold Blood" earned him the cover of Life magazine.

On TV, he appeared on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (2001-2008). "It's tough, it's tough when anyone leaves the show", Kirkman admitted followed by a clearly heartfelt "I love you Andy".

Our thoughts are with Wilson's loved ones during this time of mourning. "A Noble actor and my dear friend", said comedian Rob Schneider.

The actor leaves behind his wife Heavenly Wilson, who he married in 1977.
