People everywhere walk out in solidarity with sexual assault survivors

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins R-Maine considered one of the few possible Republican

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins R-Maine considered one of the few possible Republican"no votes on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh speaks to news media at Saint Anselm College Friday Sept. 21 2018 in Manchester N.H

McConnell's speech came as the controversy over Kavanaugh's confirmation took another twist when a new accusation landed late Sunday in a report from The New Yorker.

"As with any witness who comes before the Senate, the Senate Judiciary Committee can not hand over its constitutional duties to attorneys for outside witnesses", Mike Davis, Grassley's top nominations counsel, wrote in an email exchange with Ford's lawyers obtained by The Associated Press. But now Ramirez is calling for an FBI investigation into her claim.

A request for comment to Charles Grassley, the chair of the Judiciary Committee was not immediately returned.

Flake, who is retiring from the Senate in early January, was among the handful of Republicans who first said the committee should delay a vote until hearing from Ford.

The New York Times reports that Kavanaugh, who faces new allegations of another assault in college, kept a calendar that shows he was away from home for most of the summer in 1982.

That's been followed by a new claim against Kavanaugh by another woman. "After six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections to say that she remembers Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party". I had heard rumors that there was someone from Yale College who had a very bad experience, an arguably sexually harassing experience, with Judge Kavanaugh from a number of acquaintances from Yale, but without the specifics of name and a place and time. When asked about that Monday, Conway said that "it's been put on hold for weeks now" because Feinstein waited until late in the process to raise Ford's allegations, despite previously being aware of them. To be clear, Kavanaugh is in the running for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court and his wife does not get a vote.

In their blockbuster report on new allegations of sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, two of the country's most highly regarded journalists, Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow, have written in The New Yorker that senior Republican staffers "learned of the allegation last week and, in conversations with The New Yorker, expressed concern about its potential impact on Kavanaugh's nomination". She named three people who were at the party: PJ Smyth, Mark Judge, and Leland Ingham Keyser.

Bennet's office told CBS4 that is is unclear whether Ramirez will have the opportunity to speak before the Senate Judiciary Committee but she is expected to speak in some manner this week.

Exact details of Thursday's scheduled hearing before the Judiciary Committee are still being worked out.

The White House remained firmly behind Kavanaugh Monday and planned an aggressive defense, said a White House official not authorized to speak publicly, who stressed the lack of corroborating evidence. It has also forced the White House and Senate Republicans onto the defensive and fueled calls from Democrats to postpone further action on his confirmation.

Kavanaugh will address allegations of sexual assault/misconduct made by former Yale classmate Deborah Ramirez, and by Dr. Lindsey Graham, for instance, said: "What am I supposed to do, go ahead and ruin this guy's life based on an accusation?"

Women's March, a group that grew out of a January 2017 demonstration against Trump, was one of the organizers of the protests. "His nomination was an affront to women from the start, and any continuation of these hearings will be seen by women as a war on survivors of sexual assault".
