Iran warns U.S., Israel of revenge after parade attack

Saying the separatists who killed at least 25 people at an Iranian military parade are allied with the USA and Saudi Arabia, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says those responsible "will certainly be severely punished".

Among those buried was Mohammad Taha Eghdami, a four-year-old boy, who was the youngest victim of the attack.

State TV reported late Monday that authorities have detained 22 suspects linked to the group behind the attack and confiscated ammunition and communication equipment.

The "formal incitement against the UAE from within Iran is unfortunate, and has escalated after the Ahvaz attack", said Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash in a tweet.

"Based on reports, this cowardly act was done by people who the Americans come to help when they are trapped in Syria and Iraq, and are paid by Saudi Arabia and the UAE", Khamenei said on his website.

The US permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley, said on Sunday that it "condemns any terrorist attack anywhere" and that the Iranian president needed to "look in the mirror" rather than blame her country.

Hossein Salami, the deputy head of the Revolutionary Guard, was at a funeral for one of the attack's victims when he reportedly said, "You have seen our revenge before".

The former New York Mayor told an Iranian opposition group that United States sanctions on Iran are leading to economic pain that could lead to a "successful revolution".

"We will punish every single one of the terrorists for their actions", he vowed.

Amaq, the ISIS media agency, has posted a video on social media claiming to show the perpetrators of Saturday's attack on an Iranian military parade which left at least 29 people dead.

The Revolutionary Guard has accused Saudi Arabia of supporting the attack.

Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned Western diplomats, accusing them of allegedly providing havens for the Arab separatists behind the attacks.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which Iran has blamed on Arab separatists in the country's southwest.

He did not give any further details on the identity of those behind the "terrorist attack".

But that remark came a week after Trump and Rouhani traded threats, and Iran's leadership replied by saying the time for talks was before, not after, Trump withdrew the US from the Iran nuclear deal. While Iran still complies with the accord, President Donald Trump withdrew America over the deal in part due to Tehran's ballistic missile program, its "malign behavior" in the Mideast and its support of militant groups like Hezbollah.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran on Monday with a group of athletes and medal winners of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It is, however, highly unlikely the Guards will strike any of its foes directly and risk setting off a regional conflict.

In New York, Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani said on Saturday that USA sanctions were inflicting economic pain on Iran that could lead to a "successful revolution". The oil super-powers are waging a war for influence across the Middle East, backing opposite sides in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon.
