Garoppolo carted to locker room with knee injury

San Francisco 49ers quarterback and former Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo left Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs with what the team fears is a serious knee injury.

Garoppolo's left knee buckled just before taking a heavy hit from Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson down the left sideline. Not so far, as Mahomes threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns as the Chiefs moved to a flawless 3-0 with a decisive win over the 49ers.

Garoppolo will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

With Garoppolo feared lost for the season, it appears that C.J. Beathard will reassume the starting job he lost about a month after Garoppolo was acquired in a trade previous year from the Patriots.

This shows just how much things can change from week to week in the NFL. "We have a lot of confidence that he'll be able to come in".

"He keeps surprising everybody every single week, even his teammates, and it gets us going, playing with confidence, and that stuff is contagious, and we just keep it rolling from there", Kelce said.

Andy Reid's scheme has masterfully accentuated Mahomes' strengths, with the Chiefs totaling a franchise-record 118 points in the first three games - a marked improvement over last year's No. 6 scoring offense that exploded out of the gate with 93 points during a 3-0 start.

"I told him I would be praying for him and that I love him", Beathard said (via the Chronicle ).

The 49ers have a great opportunity to get their backs involved in the passing game and I believe that is going to be the true "X factor" for the team. Mahomes then threw a laser to Conley in the back of the end zone while running to his right. I know how disappointed he is.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is setting a standard that is impossible for any normal human being to sustain.

"We will think about that later", he said, "But I am definitely happy with the guys we got".

49ers: The defensive backfield was in tatters by the fourth quarter. He has completed 53-of-89 passes this season for 718 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions.
