Jurgen Klopp said he is not anxious about Mohamed Salah's start to the campaign and believes the forward is being harshly compared to last season's standards.

Was it already like he finished last season, in the Premier League season especially? No. "No-one remembers that, it is really no problem".

Klopp, whose side have begun the season in great style and are yet to drop a point after five Premier League matches despite Salah's lack of goals, admitted the Egyptian's superb record had raised expectations.

Liverpool and Southampton have had a fair few dealings with each other in recent times and it has mainly been involving Saints players heading to Merseyside to sign for the Reds.

"Once we [Manchester United] had broken through that glass ceiling, it seemed like it became easier for the teams that followed to win trophies".

"He had fantastic offensive situations in both of the last games".

He said: "It takes courage to have the ball, and the more you have it the more chances you have to give it away". I never do that - only supporters can do that.

Despite his side's win over the French champions, in which Roberto Firmino bagged a stoppage-time victor, Klopp still thinks PSG are among the favourites for this season's Champions League.

Also, in Tuesday Champions League game against Paris Saint Germain, the forward made an error that helped Kylian Mbappe's equaliser before Roberto Firmino's stoppage-time victor. "It is much too early to be thinking about something like that and making a big thing of it", Klopp said of Salah's goals return.

"Yes, he [Firmino] is ready", Klopp said. "He looks really fit". It's a different situation and that's all. "I had a long injury in my career and the first month you take it somehow and then you think: "That's really boring and it's not exactly why I wanted to play football". People say you are a world class player BUT... you still have to defend like in the first game of your career. But he will always be a very important part of the squad because of the guy he is.
