Maroon 5, National Football League and Pepsi, sponsor of the halftime show, have yet to comment on the report.

Performing during the famed Super Bowl halftime show would be a dream come true for the band, with Levine telling Howard Stern in 2015 that they "very actively want to play the Super Bowl", but had been on a "short list".

Super Bowl 53 takes place Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, giving the group more than enough time to perform at the big game.

Maroon 5 jokingly responded after the mix-up, tweeting at Henson, "Thanks for loving our performance from our seats at #SB50". Their current Red Pill Blues Tour features a unique stage layout that includes two massive catwalks, turning each concert into an almost 360-degree experience because the band can move across nearly the entire arena floor. Levine was a guest on Kanye West's "Heard 'Em Say" many years ago, so there's at least one great song that they could perform.

The band has collaborated with a number of incredible artists over the years, most recently Cardi B on the hit song "Girls Like You".

Maroon 5 have been waiting for this opportunity, which is only going to motivate them to make sure they do something special with it. They have some big shoes to fill. "We think we sounded pretty good!"
