Trump claims 3,000 ‘did not die’ in Puerto Rico, blames Democrats

Trump remains as enthusiastic about his Hurricane Maria response now as he did in October 2017 when he visited Puerto Rico after the storm

It was not until last month that electricity was fully restored to the entire island of Puerto Rico, almost a year after the hurricane made landfall. Trump said there were "6 to 18 deaths" shortly after the storm hit Puerto Rico in 2017. As time went by it did not go up by much. Instead, he argued, without providing evidence, that the death toll was a Democratic claim to make him look bad.

Donald Trump has continued to insist the death toll when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico is incorrect and has been deliberately inflated to discredit him. The host noted that she abandoned the practice, suggesting that "the bottom of our political discourse" during the Trump era is unreachable.

Trump calls the government's response in Puerto Rico "successful" even though a federal report shows 2,975 people died. Wallace mused. "That seems to me to be a whole new level of horror from this West Wing". He's the president of the United States.

While Trump battles the media over his response to Maria, FEMA is briefing Americans on what to expect from Hurricane Florence. I don't know. We will never know how many, how many we lost.

Calling the response to Maria "a challenge to the conscience of our nation", Pelosi announced at the press conference that a delegation of 16 Democrats visited the US territory in July to determine what should be done to further assist islanders.

"Puerto Rico went through a tragedy".

It was the second time this week that the president had made outlandish claims about Puerto Rico, which also engendered a furious response. Sen.

And House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said, "I have no reason to dispute these numbers". "If he thinks the death of 3,000 people [is] a success God help us all".

But Trump said he believes this "was one of the best jobs that's ever been done with respect to what this is all about".

"At the time that this was happening, he was more concerned with National Football League athletes protesting and kneeling then he was concerned about what's going on in the United States", she continued. "They died because they did not have water; they died because they did not have food". "This situation what happened in Puerto Rico, it's far more complicated and its not the president saying I want this to be a disaster for everyone".
