Saints narrowly prolong Browns winless streak 21-18

What Sean Payton Dennis Allen are saying about Browns before Week 2

The Cleveland Browns are set to release wide receiver Josh Gordon on Monday, the team announced Saturday.

Cleveland's move came after Gordon - who was ruled out of Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints with a hamstring injury - reportedly did not arrive to the Browns' facility on time earlier in the day.

Gordon played all 16 games as a rookie, but his series of suspensions for violations of the NFL's substance-abuse policy began the next season.

The 27-year-old receiver is as physically gifted as anyone at his position in the National Football League, but he hasn't been able to escape his off-field demons.

Given his huge talent it wouldn't be shocking if a team took a chance on him immediately. Six plays later, Brees found Michael Thomas on a bubble screen for a 2-yard touchdown to cut the Browns lead to 12-10 with 8:41 remaining in the game.

Hopefully he gets his life together.

This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday.

Here's a look at the top plays that kept the Browns winless streak alive, now at 19 straight games and counting.

In the buildup to the opener, Jackson also claimed Gordon would be on a "pitch count". One of those missed PATs would have put Cleveland ahead after Tyrod Taylor's remarkable touchdown pass on fourth down.

Gordon was healthy for and during Friday's practice, usually when teams start to make final decisions on roster counts for Sunday's matchups.

The NFL realized Gordon's Hall of Fame-caliber talent during his historic 2013 season, but he'll be remembered most in Cleveland for the personal issues that prevented him from truly flourishing with the Browns.
