Joyce becomes a tropical storm in central Atlantic

Hurricane Florence strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane Monday afternoon

Hurricane Florence strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane Monday afternoon

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory Thursday morning for the U.S. Virgin Islands as a weakening Tropical Storm Isaac pushed into the Caribbean.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 120 miles per hour (195 km/h) with higher gusts.

Meanwhile, Isaac is a tropical storm that will eventually die out as it moves closer to the Yucatán Peninsula, according to Bridges.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for...

However, it is expected to generate accumulations of rain of between five and seven centimeters in isolated areas of the Lesser Antilles, with a danger of flooding.

At that time, Isaac is forecast to be a tropical storm with top winds of 40 miles per hour.

Its center was located near latitude 14.9 North, longitude 67.3 West.

The specialists refer to the probability that it will be reoriented towards the British Isles in an extratropical cyclone condition.

The Met Office said a Tropical Storm Warning was in effect for Guadeloupe, Dominica and Martinique but was expected to be discontinued by Thursday evening.

Isaac is moving west at 21 miles per hour.

Surf swells generated by Isaac are affecting portions of the Lesser Antilles. Philippine authorities began evacuating thousands of people Thursday from the path of the typhoon, closing schools, readying bulldozers for landslides and placing rescuers and troops on full alert in the country's north.

Florence diminished from hurricane strength as it came ashore on Friday, but forecasters said the 350-mile-wide storm's (560 km) slow progress across the two states could leave much of the region under water in the coming days.

A small-craft warning means in this case that surface winds greater than or equal to 25 knots and seas equal to or greater than 3 metres (10ft) are already affecting or expected to affect the marine area.

Residents especially those in flood and landslide prone areas are to be vigilant; and small craft operators and sea bathers are advised to exercise caution due to locally rough seas.
