Apple Has Discontinued the iPhone X, iPhone 6s, and iPhone SE

But here's the big question: is it the one you want to upgrade to?

But overall, the price of entry to the Apple ecosystem has gone up. It's the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever produced. We were expecting that this model might be a little delayed, so that's good news for those that wanted a slightly cheaper iPhone. The Face ID sensor on the iPhone X uses an entirely different approach, where the sensors bathe your face in Infra-red laser light and measure the distortion of each laser to map the face.

Well, unsurprisingly for a brand that puts such a focus on design (and whose chief designer was flipping knighted) it's not an ugly device in any way.

But Apple's apparent decision to drop the iPhone SE is somewhat unexpected.

Although considered a cheaper version, the iPhone Xr still got the fancy new 7nm A12 Bionic SoC, the same one seen with the iPhone Xs series, which should give it plenty of performance as well as better battery life.

The next iPhone XS Max/Plus could be a bigger iPhone X with a massive 6.5-inch OLED display and a similar glass design with metal frame.

The iPhone XR will be available in six colours when it becomes available.

Apple will continue to sell the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 in regular and Plus sizes. Starting with the iPhone 7, launched in late 2016, Apple ditched the headphone jack, infamously citing the "courage" to move forward with new audio technology. That adapter, which used to come included, will now cost buyers an extra $9. It can predict when you fall and send that data to an emergency contact.

At the same time, the iPhone XR is more expensive than last year's entry-level iPhone 8, which started at $699.

In the build-up to the iPhone launch, much of the talk was around the screen of the iPhone XR. It will sport a 5.8-inch OLED display with the notch on top. And as a result, older models are getting the boot.

The mid-range iPhone Xs starts at the same $999 price as last year's iPhone X, and is functionally similar.

At its annual September event, Apple introduced three new iPhone models the iPhone XS (pronounced "ten-ess" not "ex-ess"), iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR (pronounced "ten-are" not "ex-are"). It works rather nicely, considering it's "faked".

Apple also cut some coss at the back, equipping the iPhone Xr with a single 12-megapixel wide-angle camera.

In our very rapid testing in the demonstration area, the pictures we took were clear and sharp and colorful - but that's largely because all smartphone cameras are more than half-decent these days.

The strategy has been successful, helping Apple's stock up more than 30 pct this year and making it the first publicly traded US company to hit a market value of more than $1 trillion.

"They have finally added a larger-screen phone so that they can directly compete with the Galaxy Note9 products", Gartner analyst Annette Zimmermann said at the event at Apple's Silicon Valley headquarters, referring to rival Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), which has led the trend towards big-screen phones.
