President Trump, who has repeatedly slammed the players' protests, also weighed in, saying in an interview with The Daily Caller that the deal with Kaepernick sends "a awful message".

Former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick appears as a face of Nike Inc advertisement marking the 30th anniversary of its "Just Do It" slogan in this image released by Nike in Beaverton, Oregon, U.S., September 4, 2018.

The announcement that Kaepernick would be the face of Nike's Just Do It campaign rustled a few feathers.

"I stand with Nike, all day, every day", James said. It's amusing watching a company that uses child slave labor overseas to make their products all of a sudden become humanitarians. Tillman died while serving in Afghanistan.

Wilson, who has a contract with Nike, also applauded the company's deal with Kaepernick. President Donald Trump has blasted Kaepernick on Twitter, saying it disrespects the American flag and the military.

Mr. Canterbury defended Nike's right to back Mr. Kaepernick, and said it would not spearhead a boycott of the company.

"If people say your dreams are insane, if they laugh at what people think you can do, good", Kaepernick says in the ad as a skateboarder aces a stunt.

Miami Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills says he's encouraged by Nike's new endorsement deal with his friend and fellow activist Colin Kaepernick, and wishes the National Football League would show similar support for their cause. The Game - who also runs his own charity organization, The Robin Hood Project for families in need - can't say whether he thinks it'll happen but he does have hope that they might. "I take the position that if people are going to destroy or burn their Nike gear rather than do that why not put it in the hands of kids who need it", Sittenfeld said. Some people have said they are now more likely to buy Nike because of the apparent social stance while others sent the hashtag #BoycottNike trending.
