Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker each scored as Manchester City defeated Newcastle United 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The England right back received the ball from Sergio Aguero, took a touch, and fired an angled shot into the bottom corner in the 52nd minute for his first goal in nearly three years.

The hosts came flying out of the traps and opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Raheem Sterling curled in an unstoppable effort from just inside the area, the England global capitalising on a mis-placed pass by Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

The Etihad was left stunned after 27 minutes as Newcastle managed level matters with Deandre Yedlin turning home a cross from Salomon Rondon.

Full-back Walker was the match-winner with his first goal for the club, picking the ball up 30 yards out and drilling a low finish into the far corner of the net.

City, who have not lost a Premier League game to Newcastle since September 2005, opened the scoring in the seventh minute thanks to Sterling's second goal of the season.

Did Man City miss Leroy Sane? .

The goal came after Jamaal Lascelles played an very bad pass out from the edge of his own penalty area, enabling Benjamin Mendy to intercept and feed a pass left to Sterling, who cut inside and drilled a shot into the far corner.

Newcastle hung in there, however, and equalised on the half-hour mark with a well-worked goal.

City have scored 16 goals in the last five matches between these two teams.

Bernardo Silva sent a delightful pass to Sergio Aguero and his cross saw Martin Dubravka make a remarkable point-blank saves from Fernandinho before twice denying David Silva on the rebound.
