NBC reportedly threatened Ronan Farrow over Weinstein bombshells

NBC is still furiously denying reports that top executives actively quashed Ronan Farrow’s explosive story on Harve

NBC told journalist Ronan Farrow his bombshell 2017 story about Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct was not ready to air and he was even threatened by someone at the network when he made a decision to take the story elsewhere, according to a new report. The painstakingly researched article was credited with kicking off the current #MeToo Movement, earning Farrow a Pulitzer Prize for his work. Per the Times, CBS and ABC ran the story in their evening news packages. HuffPost reported previous year that McGowan "withdrew her permission for NBC News to use the footage after she'd received legal threats from Weinstein".

NBC disputes this allegation, "We repeatedly made clear to Ronan and Rich McHugh the standard for publication is we needed at least one credible on-the-record victim or witness of misconduct", president of NBC News Noah Oppenheim told the Times.

McHugh said that the network "ordered" he and Farrow to not interview the Weinstein accuser in California last August and "to stand down on the story altogether".

Rich McHugh, a producer who has since left the network, told The New York Times for a story published Thursday night that "the very highest levels of NBC" worked to shut down the story before Farrow eventually left the network and published the story under a byline in The New Yorker.

McHugh said that, despite mounting evidence, "I think it's fair to say that there was a point in our reporting where I felt there were obstacles to us reporting this externally, and there were obstacles to us reporting this internally". "I knew that Weinstein was calling NBC executives directly", he added.

NBC called the report "malicious distortion" in a statement to Fox News. Not only does Oppenheim moonlight as a screenwriter, he shared a table with Weinstein at the Time 100 Gala in April of 2017, which, according to the timeline above, happened months after Farrow had started his investigation.

Farrow also was allegedly contacted by NBC's general counsel Susan Weiner, who sources told the Daily Beast threatened to smear Farrow's name if he published the story.

Once the story broke, NBC News employees were confused as to why their bosses had willingly let go of such an explosive story.

Auletta, a mediawriter for the New Yorker, helped Farrow find a home for the reporting after he parted with NBC. This is the same network, after all, that kept making excuses for Matt Lauer.

NBC News itself has also been under fire after the far-left network circled the wagons for MSNBC anchor Joy Reid, who serial lied as a means to blame a supposed hacker (that does not exist) for homophobic ravings published on her personal blog a decade ago. "And immediately the New Yorker recognized that, and it is not accurate to say that it was not reportable".
