India and England face off in the fourth Test of the five-match series, which the home team now leads 2-1, at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

An innings of 219 and figures of eight for 89 against Yorkshire have put Ali s name back in the frame for a match on a ground where he took six for 67 against India during England s 266-run win in the corresponding Test four years ago.

England collapsed to 86-6 amid some potent India bowling before Curran, recalled following Chris Woakes' thigh injury, hit a Test-best 78 to lift the hosts to 246 all out - India subsequently reaching 19-0 by stumps.

India has named an unchanged XI from the third Test. The story after that is well known: Cook scored a gritty 95, England won that Test and the next two. It gives India a golden chance to bat England out of the Test to square the series, which England lead 2-1.

Jonny Bairstow who suffered with a finger injury during third Test has recovered a lot and he is been included in the playing XI.

A cursory quarter-hour session followed in which Bairstow took gentle throws and then lobs from a ground-level bowling machine before spending at least as long in earnest and occasionally animated conversation with head coach Trevor Bayliss.

If either man is ruled out, it could lead to a return for 20-year-old Surrey left-arm swing bowler Curran, who was man-of-the-match in the first Test at Edgbaston.

"As far as learning goes, when you see a senior player (Anderson) performing before you like that, you observe him as much as you can".

"He will be disappointed but ultimately we've got to make sure we do the best thing for this team to win this game and I believe Jos is the right man to do it this time". "We've bounced back from hard defeats before and that's the challenge for us to do it again here". We could get to the Oval and it'll be very different again - that is being a part of a squad.

As for Bairstow´s promotion in a reshaped top order, Root said: "I think he´s more than capable of batting in the top four". His arch Nemesis was Ishant Sharma who picked his wicket on numerous occassions in this series.

"I'm very, very keen to keep my spot as the keeper because I'd like to think it's gone pretty well over the last 38, 39 Test matches keeping for England".

"He is a rightfully right up there with the likes of Glenn McGrath as one the greats of the game", said Root of Anderson.

England's Joe Root walks off the pitch after being given out lbw to India's Ishant Sharma.

India have yet to field the same side for two consecutive Tests under Virat Kohli s captaincy.
