On Wednesday we learned that White House lawyer Don McGahn is leaving his post.

On Wednesday morning, Trump that McGahn would step down after the Senate votes on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, which Senate Republicans believe will happen in the next month or two.

While the Times presented McGahn's cooperation as "unusual", Trump tweeted that it was all a part of the unprecedented level of transparency his administration has had with regards to the Russian Federation investigation.

The relationship between Trump and McGahn, a Washington insider who was chief counsel for Trump's presidential run, has become strained by the pressures of Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, sources familiar with the situation have said.

Being the lead attorney in the Trump White House is roughly equivalent to my stress level when one of my kids is the first performer at a piano recital.

McGahn threatened to resign a year ago if Trump removed special counsel Robert Mueller from the Russian election meddling investigation.

McGahn reportedly threatened to quit earlier in his White House tenure after Trump raised the possibility of firing Mueller.

"He was surprised", this person said.

In July, McGahn was chosen to reprise that role, overseeing Trump's selection of Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

His tweet prompted some snark from DC lawyer George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and a frequent Trump critic.

In a statement to ABC News, Grassley's spokesman said the senator's tweet reflected his admiration for McGahn's work regarding judicial nominees. Flynn was forced to resign after reports revealed Yates' warning to McGahn about Flynn's conduct. McGahn's exit also continues the churn of staffers as the administration sets records for turnover and the White House struggles to fill key vacancies. Sources familiar with his cooperation told ABC News that McGahn has been questioned by the special counsel's team more extensively than any other member of the White House staff who has been interviewed.

Before joining the Trump campaign and the White House, McGahn worked at the powerful DC law firm Jones Day and previously served as a commissioner on the Federal Election Commission.
