"The Tesla and SpaceX CEO apologized, but brought up the controversy again Tuesday by tweeting "it's odd he hasn't sued me? He was offered free legal services", Musk said after the Twitter user, Drew Olanoff, criticised Musk for the "pedo" tweet". Shares of Tesla had lost as much as 3 per cent after earlier his comments.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, already facing an SEC investigation that started when he tweeted about taking his company private, has continued to tweet - despite being asked by his board not to. "Mr. Musk's emotion was audible".

Some hours later, Unsworth's lawyer replied to the tweet with a picture of a letter sent to Musk informing him he would be sued for libel.

The US business leader had originally tweeted about Mr Unsworth in July.

At the time, Musk offered technology to aid in the mission that ultimately did not prove helpful. Unsworth was dismissive of the mini-sub, stating that it would not work and suggesting that Musk "stick his submarine where it hurts".

Rather than responding to a media inquiry on the possible libel suit, Musk lashed out at BuzzFeed News when the outlet asked for comment. Following the comments, Musk tweeted his unfounded "pedo" claim, and doubled down in another tweet: "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true". (The implication here being Unsworth didn't lawyer up because he might have actually been the thing Musk unfoundedly proclaimed he was.) Except, it turns out, Unsworth's lawyer did get in touch with Musk.

Musk joined the discussion tweeting, "For the record, my voice cracked once during the NY Times article".

Tesla shares fell 4% after the rant and two days later Musk apologised, saying: "The fault is mine and mine alone".

In a statement, Hansen claims Tesla also told him not to disclose or pursue other sensitive matters, including the alleged theft of more than $37 million in copper and other raw materials from the company's factory between January and June.

Subsequently, Unsworth said he might sue - and Musk apologized.

"You don't think it's unusual he hasn't sued me?"

"Actually, it's like nearly nothing".

Elon Musk is denying that he cried during a recent interview with The New York Times in which he described how he'd become overwhelmed by the stress of running electric vehicle company Tesla.

Elon Musk seems to be spiraling at a frightening pace.

"He doesn't know how to do it differently".

Musk's behavior has mystified even his fans.

"Conventional business leaders are far more careful in their behaviour - you don't find FTSE 100 chief executives shooting from the hip like this because they are advised it would be detrimental to the interests of their companies", Matthew Gwyther, ex-editor of Management Today, told the BBC.
