Trump's current claim that he found out about the payments only later was also seemingly contradicted by a tape Cohen released prior to making his plea deal.

Cohen's account appears to implicate Trump himself in a crime, though whether - or when - a president can be prosecuted remains a matter of legal dispute.

51-year-old Cohen had previously said he would "take a bullet" for President Trump, faced with a jail sentence from the NY courthouse between three and six years his resolution has melted.

Davis said he believed Trump committed federal crimes alongside Cohen by working on a plan to pay off the women.
