New Gmail Confidential mode now available on Android

Gmail Brings Confidential Emails to Mobile

Gmail Brings Confidential Emails to Mobile

While it's been live on the desktop for Gmail, it's not been active in the Android app...until now. The service has improvised over years and various new feature have been added to Gmail.

Similar to what Telegram introduced years ago, Gmail users can now set a self-destruct timer for a defined period on all outgoing emails.

But now the feature has made its way to mobile with both Android and iOS apps receiving an update.

The feature is live now in Gmail, so you can check it out.

- In the bottom right of the window, click Turn on confidential mode. You can also set an expiration date and passcode for a message or attachment that you're sending. You can set a password for your attachments so only those with the password can view the email.

The feature is now available for iOS and Android, but not yet accessible for G Suite customers, according to the post. If you don't see it, try downloading the latest 8.7 release from APK Mirror and give the Gmail app a force close. If the recipient is a non-gmail user, then they will get a passcode to their email for authentication.

For advanced protection, the sender of the message can also require the recipient to enter a passcode.

Press the toggle switch next to the Confidential Mode option to enable the feature.

Google announced today that Gmail's confidential mode has come to mobile devices. With that said, it does disable the recipient's ability to copy, forward, or download attachments. But this is only available after you send the email. For Gmail-to-Gmail emails, Google can pull them back.

How to use Confidential Mode?

Thoughts about Gmail's Confidential Mode? You will see an option to remove access, just tap on that, and the recipient will no longer be able to access the file.

What does Confidential Mode do? That means that Google will have access to personal data i.e. the phone number of the recipient, even without his permission.
